#WhenIWas: Sexual aggression starts young

This past week, the hashtag #WhenIWas started trending on Twitter. Women from across the world are speaking out against sexual assault and sexual aggression that they experience every day. The basic premise of the hashtag is to illuminate how often and young women and girls deal with sexual assault and harassment. Not surprisingly, the stories go on and on:

And this isn’t the end of it. These sorts of tweets continue and they don’t seem to be letting up any time soon. It’s absolutely heart breaking that these are real stories. Not enough men are reading these tweets either. These stories are hard to face, but they are true and important. We need more people listening to these stories, because I have a feeling every person’s mother, daughter, and sister has gone through this. Let’s change that. Go check out this hashtag and read it. Refresh. Read it again. Refresh. Read it some more. Refresh. Keep on listening.
